Our Sponsors

We are a friendly and thriving choir of 120 singers, well-managed by an enthusiastic committee of volunteers, and expertly directed by long-serving musical director Christopher Walker and accompanist Anita D’Attellis.

Chris took over the conductor’s reins in 1975, when the Society was a village choir of fewer than thirty singers. In the forty years since then he has overseen a huge growth both in numbers and in the musical ambitions of the Society.

We now give three concerts each year in the glorious surroundings and acoustic of Dorchester Abbey. Accompaniment is provided by our own orchestra of professionals, The Elgar Orchestra, which Chris created in 1984 when the Society performed Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius in Oxford Town Hall. A brief look at the list of works performed in recent years will demonstrate that we relish the challenge of performing the finest choral works in the repertory.

Memorable concerts include Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast, Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony, Beethoven’s monumental Missa Solemnis and the mighty Mass in B minor of J S Bach

All details about us, where we meet and how to join, will be found on succeeding pages.
